Dahl is very good, especially as she becomes unstable and as the criminal element emerges toward the end. Arlene Dahl is no Barbara, but she makes a fair showing as a rags to riches ice queen running from a actually pretty horrible! This is like a blueprint, or a rough draft. Old fashioned melodrama has the redhead climbing out of the slums of Boston and clawing her way to the top in London and Paris as she sleeps with and swindles assorted men to get what she wants. Getting to the top is the easy part but once there she has to face murder, a courtroom trial and a jail sentence before she realises true love is only to be found with the man she first rejected because he was poor.
Dahl is superb as the cool and calculating femme fatale who has a deep rooted psychological problem when it comes to loving someone. A forgotten little gem. This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth. Drinking game everytime she sets her sights on a new dude to use and screw over. Best remembered today as a glamorous television guest star who shared her beauty secrets with fans in her syndicated newspaper column or as the mother of action star Lorenzo Lamas, Arlene Dahl has a devoted cult following for her brief but effective reign as a screen bad girl.
Case in point is the British drama, Wicked as They Come, about a beauty queen seducing her way to the top. Letterboxd is an independent service created by a small team, and we rely mostly on the support of our members to maintain our site and apps.
