I have the LaserMouse and it's doing the same thing: Vertical Scroll is far too fast. It only scrolls too fast in IE. I use IE6. In other programs, the scrolling is as I desire, just its extremely fast in IE6. I have the settings in Intellipoint 5. IE6 is the only program that gives me this problem. I'm seeing exactly the same problem with the RTM i. In the Programs list in the control panel, it comes up as 6.
I'm actually seeing two problems. Sometimes, the mouse wheel is ridiculously fast as described. Sometimes it's incredibly slow. Sometimes it's OK. Yesterday, it was fine. This morning, it's in unbelievably slow mode. In between yesterday and today, I unplugged the transmitter unit from my laptop's USB port because I wanted to work upstairs. This morning, I brought the laptop back downstairs, plugged the mouse back in, and that's when it went into v e r y s l o w mode.
I am running the release version of Vista Ulimate x86 and the release version of Intellipoint for Vista x The vertical scroll button seems to work eratically, ie sometimes it scrolls fast, sometimes slow, sometimes it jumps. The result is different by application, Outlook and IE seem to be the best, but Word , Excel , Explorer and Acrobat 8 have the most issues.
Mostly the scroll is too slow and not smooth, meaning that I have to scroll the wheel a lot before anything happens. I had the same problem with Intellipoint - I went to the Microsoft Mouse settings Intellipoint and set the scroll speed to the lowest possible, and I unchecked "Enable accelerated scrolling"; the scroll speed remained ridiculously fast in all applications, jumping about 10 lines per scroll I am currently using Vista x64, but I had this problem on XP x86 as well.
However, I found a solution! I right-clicked on "HID-compliant mouse", disabled it, then enabled it. I hope this solves other people's issues with this mouse. You should be able to bring up the right-click menu with that button after using your arrow keys to hilight the wireless mouse in the list of devices.
The Mouse itself is really nice, however the Scroll Wheel is also driving me nuts. Changing the settings does not seem to have much if any effect. Reading is almost impossible with this mouse. The only solution is to disable the USB Human Interface Device for the mouse, and then re-enable it, and the problem is gone much like unplugging and replugging in the USB receiver hardware itself.
